Hello Everyone. Today i wish to touch the sensitive issue of Dengue that struck the nation on a bigger scale than ever before. What i am apalled looking at; is how this has become a political issue. An issue big enough to ignore other major medical concerns over the nation. My luck struck me gold yesternight, when i were with my wife in the company of my college friend and two good doctors (my friend's sister and her husband) having dinner. The conversation started; took it's course and landed on the the much conversed Arvind Kejriwal and how he is working towards eradicating this non-stop epidemic called Dengue. I will not and i am not favouring or criticising any individual or political party. I just put forward my thoughts after learning of the current medical situation all over the nation. These doctors with whom i conversed, work in one of the government hospitals of Delhi.
Delhi government hospitals are substatially equipped and occupied 24x7, 365 days a year to provide medical treatment to anyone from society. More often they are occupied by the needy, poverty struck, and lower working class of the society. A study by The Economic Times says, 5151 cases of Dengue have been reported so far in current month in Delhi alone ( http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/politics-and-nation/5151-dengue-cases-in-delhi-in-current-month/articleshow/49141702.cms ). As told by the doctors last night, looking at the rising number of dengue cases, Mr. Arvind Kejriwal ordered all the hospitals of the city to not deny admission of dengue cases irrespective of the allotments made to different sections of hospitals. Also they were advised to reject other medical cases and clear other pending patients with other medical reasons as soon as possible. Soon after the mail arrived, the hospital authorities were compelled to comply with the orders.
The gentlemen tells me, "I had a patient, an old man with a broken hip bone who needed a surgery. We, as per orders did the basic treatment and were ready to discharge him although we did not wished so. That old man made a call from my phone to his sons to pick him up from the hospital to take home. Surprisingly, none of the two sons picked his call. That old man was in tears with the thought of his inability to do anything for himself and kept crying. At last no matter what, he had to be discharged. I wonder where he is, in what condition."
The point i want to make is very simple and clear. We all know Dengue is an issue that needs a resolve as soon as possible. But the death or declining health of a patient of some other ailment can not be the cost of the recovery of a Dengue patient, not in Delhi but anywhere in the world. Instead of clearing previous patients from a hospital to cure other patients, we could increase the bed count. We should any way be prepared with emergency buildings that could serve as hospitals in times like these. Each and Every patient needs treatment irrespective of how big or small there concern be. And no one else than a Doctor is to judge of his Patient's condition. I wish all the efforts of people who are working there night and day towards resolving this issue come to fruition with good results.
A doctor for many is God in disguise. Don't make these Demi Gods turn there faces away from the ones who beleive in them.
Politics has and will survive on the Poll count; not on Toll count
