For me as a poet, it has often been hard to choose from the wide array of issues, situations and experiences to pen down some good poetry. And every time i have found my self in a fix, friends Dhruv Dhingra and Sandesh Pahuja have been at my rescue. Yesterday wen i was thinking of a good topic for a poem that should flow through my pen, Sandy a.k.a. Sandesh Pahuja asked me to think on this. He said "If there is a pressure on me to create a recognition for myself, it will make me weak and loose self confidence". I therefore modify and frame it in a different way. "Will the Pressure to create (self) recognition help and benefit a person or will it make him weak and loose his confidence."
I, being a management student have listened to video lectures of some great management gurus and entrepreneurs. I have been fortunate enough to attend this thirteen day executive program at the prestigious Hass School of Business, University of California, Berkeley, San Francisco, United States Of America. And put that all aside, i have been a part of these wonderful "enlightening sessions" from our very own management guru, an entrepreneur, an author, a film maker and an economist ~ Mr. Arindam Chaudhury. And whatever i say now should not be related to my education or educators. It rather, is a resultant of experiences i have had and stories i have met. Though, i do not deny the fact that whatever great words of wisdom i heard from these people some days back reconcile today when i think on what sandy asked me yesterday.
Well i strongly think that pressure does make you weak and loose self confidence. But before all that happens, it slowly and gradually kills the "fire in the belly" to do something exceptional, something exemplary. I was in U.C Berkeley and during those 13 days all the focus was on one thing, Innovation. Something that makes you stand bright among st the crowd like a firefly in the night glowing its own light. I was attending one of these lectures taken by Mr. Arindam Chaudhury in Siri fort Auditorium, New Delhi. More than ever in his sessions, i heard of only one thing ~ Passion. Passion in whatever one does. I heard this globally famous speech by Late Steve Jobs, the founder of APPLE in one of our lectures during my M.B.A. He said one thing that remains afresh in the minds of the dumbest (me included) who have seen the video. He said "Stay hungry, Stay Foolish". I do not deny that pressure keeps you up and alert in the world but what really matters is Passion. If one is madly passionate about the thing he/she is doing, pursuing or persuading in life, the pressure ceases to exist and what remains is pure ease. Arindam Chaudhury once said in his lectures, "I hate people who are in the middle. In fact, there is nobody who is in the middle. Either you're a performer or a non performer." Evident from his words, he talked of pure passion but never pressure. When the man behind Apple said "STAY HUNGRY STAY FOOLISH", he was not talking of being in pressure any way. STAY HUNGRY to me means to stay curious and STAY FOOLISH to me means to stay at ease. Of all the people i have listened to, Passion, Will, Determination and Grit are the words i have heard of. Pressure is almost non-existent.
Pressure kills your ambitions. It makes you perform just in order to be among st the crowd. It hampers your creativity and imagination. Add to it, your vision too. Furthermore, Pressure brings stagnation. While Pressure is destructive, Ease is innovative. While Pressure makes you rebellious, Ease enables you to be aggressive. For me personally, being aggressive and innovative is far much better than being rebellious and (self) destructive.
Another chrome window on my laptop, i Google quotes on pressure. And every quote talks of pressure being a great tool for achieving and establishing success. No matter how much i try getting away from the fact of being a jeweler, (which i am quite proud of) it still kicks in.
The favorite quote i found on the internet about pressure
"NO PRESSURE, NO DIAMONDS"
But i still stand strong on what i say. I say, Pressure is Destructive. And surely, it does make you weak and loose confidence. And when you stand weak with low confidence levels, Recognition my friend is a far-fetched goal.
Great life ahead folks!
